Two Families of Fallen Navy SEALs Receive New Homes in Honor of Their Loved Ones’ Sacrifice

War always leaves deep scars. Destroyed homes can be rebuilt, but the loss of a loved one is irreparable. That’s why remembering fallen defenders of Ukraine must go beyond words — it must be reflected in actions. This belief is shared by Serhii Tarasov, founder and owner of the agricultural holding "I & U Group Ukraine".

Without cameras or publicity, and from the heart, Mr. Tarasov purchased two apartments in Mykolaiv for the families of Mykola Nikonov and Oleksandr Nikitin — servicemen who gave their lives defending Ukraine. Both served in the same elite naval unit — the legendary Ukrainian Navy SEALs. Their families lived nearby: the Nikonovs in Ochakiv, the Nikitins in a neighboring village.

Heroes Ukraine Will Never Forget

Mykola Nikonov, a second-rank captain, had been fighting since 2014 in the Donbas. He was killed in March 2022 during the defense of Mariupol, while leading a group out of enemy encirclement. He was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Ukraine and the Order of the Golden Star.

Oleksandr Nikitin, a combat diver and technician, was the embodiment of resilience. In October 2018, he was severely injured by a landmine and lost a leg. Just four months later, he returned to active duty. He was killed in late 2023.

A Quiet Act of Gratitude

Both men left behind wives and two children — a son and a daughter. When the unit’s command reached out to Serhii Tarasov for help, he responded without hesitation.

“This is the least we can do to honor our heroes,” he said.

The apartment handover was quiet and intimate. The widows couldn’t speak — their grief still raw. Their tearful eyes said more than words ever could.
